What Does an AI Visibility Audit Actually Include?
Know what you should receive before agreeing to a full review.
The direct answer
A useful AI visibility audit defines the buyer questions being tested, records answers under documented conditions, checks descriptions against real business facts, reviews visible sources and competitors, and produces prioritized next steps. Ask for a defined sample
Which questions, platforms, products, markets, and languages are included? Will observations repeat? Does the sample distinguish a category question from a prompt naming your brand? A brand mentioned after being asked about directly is not evidence of unprompted discovery. You need the wording and context to interpret what the report actually shows.
Expect an evidence trail
For each meaningful finding, look for the exact question, answer, observation date, relevant platform context, and citations supplied. An accuracy claim needs current approved business facts for comparison. An unexplained score is less actionable than a clear discrepancy between what your business offers and what the sampled answer describes. Unknown sources should stay unknown.
Look for implementation priorities
A report should connect findings with feasible actions. For example, an incomplete service description may prompt a review of the relevant page and public profiles. Explain why that work matters, who controls it, and how much coordination it requires. A hypothesis about a source is not proof of causation, and a proposed change is not completed implementation.
Agree the output and next step
Confirm report format, responsibility for factual review, fees, delivery milestones, and exclusions. Does the audit include implementation, or only recommendations? What evidence is retained and how can you access it? Start with the sample audit to understand the method.
